Classic car insurance

Having discussion with someone at a classic car show they were telling me that it is possible to insure any car as a classic so long as it is 20 years old. My daily runaround Nissan Micra is now 20 years old so does anyone know of an insurer who would cover it as a classic? Thanks

Is there a difference for you? If it's insured then I would imagine that's all that's need, the value of the car is the value so that's not going to change anything, you can get limited mileage policies to bring the price down too - what's your reason to have it classed as a classic.

If you ring Classicline and explain what the car is, they're likely to put you on the right policy. They're very easy to deal with on the phone.. Even for my modified stuff.

All I am trying to do is reduce my outgoings. Classic car insurance is cheaper than "normal" insurance, I'm not trying to use the Micra as a Classic.

One thing may get in the way. Most classic policies like the car to be a "second" car.
I know people do use their classics as a their only vehicle (or at least did a few years ago) but the premiums are higher than those of a second car.
But always worth a try, speak to your current classic insurer, they may be able to put it on a multiple policy. Or if you have access to another "main" vehicle...(company car etc)

Thanks Cliftyhanger, the Micra is my second car so that should not be a problem. My current classic insurer don't rate the Micra as a classic and I have tried getting a quote for all three cars on a multi policy but it worked out dearer than three separate policies.

I'm almost paying as much for my Sprint as I am for my C-Max, that's why I asked. I don't think you'll necessarily get the cheapest quote from insurance companies specialising in classics.

I would try as many companies as you have the time to try, tell them it's a 2nd car, it'll be limited mileage etc.

Thanks for all the advice, I've now got it sorted. All four of our family do use the car on occasions and at times do use it to commute to work (that did make things slightly more complicated). Having had a good search round and did manage to get the cover I required and managed to save £90 on my renewal quote.
