Getting a bit more done each week Matt, it's great to get some of the big stuff back on the car as it free's up garage space.Matt Cotton wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 8:28 pm Good to see you are getting plenty of garage time in Tony! All looking superb.

Yes, hoping to have it finished by summer 2023.

Thought I'd take a look at the engine today, I bought it as a good running engine but never heard it actually run. The owner said it had had some work done to it recently but didn't know much about it. I thought I would whip the sump off & also check the timing chain tensioner before fitting it into the car, glad I did:
Rolon tensioner with the slipper pad dislodged
Sump had 3 shims, a couple of washers, cam bolt & the tensioner plate in the bottom
Otherwise it all seems quite clean, the conrods have yellow paint on them, any ideas why?

Re: New Project VA485 - RPJ 7L
A reminder to beware of Rolon tensioners there and the fact some suppliers now supply Rolon as a supersession to OE parts including the Jaguar EAC3629. SNG Barrett supply both the Jag OE at £90.50 and Rolon 'equivalent' at £16.50!
A reminder that alternative and more economic solutions to the Jag part are now available: https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... 5&start=45

Tony
How long did you wait after getting the car painted, before fitting the vinyl roof ?

Hi Dave,
I have not had the vinyl roof fitted yet.

That's where I got the idea from after speaking to you at TDCIR.

Fitted a very good used Renold Tensioner today.
I also fitted a new chain that I ordered from Robsport yesterday! It is Rolon brand so I hope it will be OK, I have not heard of any problems with these chains.
I opted for a new chain as the old one, although I could not see any damage, had made quite a gouge in the metal slipper support.
The slipper pad on the Rolon Tensioner had hardly any wear on it, so must have failed very soon after fitting.
Another reason to replace the chain was I noticed a damaged tooth on the crankshaft timing gear, so replaced this aswell.

Cheers Shaun.
Managed to find the badges on Ebay, I think they are Mini ones as they had pins on the back that I had to cut off.

Hi Tony, was the tank new or is it used?
I ask as I have a NOS tank and I'm unsure if I need to coat it internally before I fit it or just wash it out with petrol!!
You're winning the race to get stuff fitted btw, it all looks mint!
