Incontinence...auto gearbox

Hello all.

My Sprint Auto project seems to have an increasingly large puddle underneath it - gearbox oil. I haven't looked in any detail as yet, but it seems to be getting worse the longer the car is sat? It hasn't been started for a few months due to the work I've been doing to it.

Any ideas from those with knowledge of auto's?

Kind Regards

MC

If it starts leaking after it has been left standing the chances are that the converter is draining back into the gearbox, artificially raising the fluid level to the point where it finds places to leak out of. The easiest solution is to start the car up every so often, say once a week.

Dolomites were never fitted with a BW35.

The BW65 does have a breather pipe. If this is missing then fluid will come out of the breather when the engine is running.

Its exactly as Harvey says. If its left standing the converter drains back and overfills the box. Then it leaks... mine does the same. If i leave it standing for more than 2 weeks it makes a pool. It does not leak while running.

I would be careful about such a product, I have used it in a modern steering rack I got for a tenner in a scrapyard, not sure I would want to use in a 40 plus year old automatic gearbox. Especially since modern stuff tends use different sorts of seals, so it might not be compatible with a classic box.

It has been around a long time Wynn's products, certainly back in the seventies. I would'nt use it in a modern as the oils are totally different, and it say's on the tin the oil's it mixes with, and our cars are no problem :D I put it in four years ago and had no problem
