Parts catalogue
Hi, I’d like to buy an original parts catalogue for my 1979 project.
I’ve seen several for sale with different dates and I want to ensure it’s got the later tandem brakes etc.
What publication dates should I be looking out for / avoiding ?

Get the latest one you can, most parts that changed will then be listed as xxxxxxx up to VIN YYYYYY and zzzzzz VIN WWWWW onwards.
I think, but perhaps someone can confirm that after 1975 the parts catalogues covered the entire Dolomite range including the Sprint. Prior to then there was a specific one for the Sprint.
There is currently a Feb 1981 issue Catalogue on fleabay which should cover all Dolomites ever made (in theory!)

I have a Sprint one dated September 1975 Part no. RTC9006B. This lists both Single line and Tandem Line brakes.

RTC9006B September 1975 has the tandem brakes in it. Sprint only

Okay........
Up to and including 1975 the parts catalogues were model specific,
whereas the 1976 Dolomite catalogue covers all post '76 models, including the
later ones fitted with dual circuit brakes.

I've got the 1981 publication RTC 9822CB and it covers all models including those with either single or dual circuit brakes.

I have a 1976 parts catalogue and it indicates that the 1500cc and the 1500HL are fitted with a part 158695 Clutch Master Cylinder which is different from the 1300cc and 1850cc cars which are fitted with a part 138928 which I believe has been superseded by GMC1023.
I have been unable to find any details about the 158695 and I am wondering if the later 1981 publication still identifies the 158695 as being the correct clutch master cylinder for the 1500.

I discovered that the official parts book quotes a different part number for the 1500cc compared to all the other OHV engines several months back when Steve Waldenburg was having clutch hydraulics problems and I was attempting to help him. Both of us tried to find out what the difference was but have not been able to find anything about the part quoted.
Some master cylinder suppliers do not even list the 1500cc master but most now supply a GMC1023. Rimmers do quote the 158695 part but do not carry any in stock and went onto advise me that they could supply one from their supplier but they were not able to tell me what the difference was between it and the GMC1023.
I have contacted a number of the normal dolomite parts suppliers and they have all told me they supply the GMC1023. I accept in most cases it will work if there is no wear in the system linkages such as at the clevis pins and all the air is removed from the hydraulic system but I am suspicious that this may be why so many 1500 owners have clutch problems. The GMC1023 has a 5/8 inch bore and when I checked a number of clutch master cylinders that I had collected from 1500cc cars over the years the majority were 5/8 but there were others that had 0.7 inch & 3/4 inch bores. I believe the larger bore would allow wear in the system.
I have been thinking of writing an article for Dolly Mixture on the subject but I would like to find out the details of the 158695 first.
