My wife has a 2011 Touran 1.6 TDI Bluemotion diesel and I would like a cheap code reader for it. Can any of the experienced bods on here recommend one? There are loads on evilbay for about £30 or £40. Are they likely to be useful?

eBay can be an absolute minefield. Instead, have a look on Amazon. It is a safer bet and Prime members get free next day delivery on most items. I was looking on Amazon and I found THIS Foxwell NT201 OBD2 reader that has had plaeny of good reviews. I can't vouch for it but it is worth a punt and if the worst comes to the worst, you could always return it for a refund.

Hope this helps any.

I've just ordered this cheap code reader on Amazon. I'm gonna try it on my Citroen to see if it will read error codes. I don't need the fancy stuff (I've got Lexia/Diagbox for that which is what the dealers use). I changed the rear suspension from airbags to coil springs but it still generates fault codes and I want a basic code reader to clear the codes (I know they will come back) without having to get my laptop out. I've also been working on a 2009 C4 Picasso and I'm getting no communitcation on the OBD2 port with my Lexia/Diagbox so i wanted to try a cheap code reader to see if that works. That Foxwell one I mentioned before looks to be a good scan tool in the £40 price bracket and seems to be worth a punt if the Amazon reviews are anything to go by.

European diesel cars since 2004 are OBD2 compliant so there shouldn't be a problem with being able to read codes on your Touran.

I eventually bought a Launch CR319 code reader from Amazon. It seems to do the job needed.
