fitting lower ball joint.
fitting lower ball joint.
Thanks for great previous advice on other problems. The lower ball joints on my 1300RWD need replacing, and I am thinking of doing the job myself, even though I have not done that job before. The Haynes manual only describes the fitting of the top ball joints, not the lower ones.My question is what should be the steps needed ,and what should I watch out for,not wanting something to go horribly wrong.Again many thanks for any help.Joe.
Re: fitting lower ball joint.
Not getting any replies to this query,I decided to have a look at doing the job myself. No problem with removing offside bolts to hub,but no luck with nearside bolts.Just would not move no matter how much pressure I applied.I found that some club member had the same problem, who had sheared off the bolt heads,so I decided not to take the chance of shearing the bolts, and that I will take it to a mechanic who has the proper facilities in the event of the bolts shearing. Thanks for looking and for previous advice.Joe
Oh,
Sorry Joe, that I didn't reply.

Re: fitting lower ball joint.
Whatever you do, don't take the top BJ off ! I followed the Haynes manual and when I removed the bottom BJ ( after removing the top one) the whole shaft assembly slid out of the gbox onto my lap! It was my first time in doing anything in the car. I soon got a lot of practice in replacing lower BJ's on my 1300FWD and could do it in 10 mins flat!
