Fuel Odour After Engine Off

Hi All

Please could you advise me if I should be concerned about a new phenomenon affecting my 1850. When I switch off the engine I notice a fuel smell at the air filter intake. The smell worsens over about 30 minutes or so after engine off. There is no overflow from the carb float chambers (SU-HS4s) and no loss of fluid from the carb jet assemblies, which have been renewed. I have just changed the fuel pump for a new one in case it was over-pressurising but it hasn't helped. I even have a new in-line fuel filter fitted. There's no odour when the engine is running.

I have the same with mine Dave, it does go after a short time so i have not bothered about it. Mine does go back in the garage when i get home, so maybe that is it? I dont notice a smell when i park up anywhere.

Tony.

Most aftermarket pumps have twice the pressure as an original. It can be that the carbs flood a little when turning the engine off.

Thank you both for your replies. I am reassured that it's "normal" as it were, but I'll watch out for it worsening.
