Exhaust under the axle ?

Hi all,
Some might think that this is bonkers, but has anybody run their exhaust under their axle ?
I'm installing larger diameter pipe and lowering the car, so there's very little space.
I don't expect that the axle moves towards the road much with only tyre compression giving that effect.
The exhaust would pass next to the right of the suspension trailling arm and wouldn't be as low to the ground as the trailling arm.
thanks, Richard.

The MGB exhaust has always been under the axle. With careful positioning it isn't a problem.

Yes, on the race car. 2.5" pipe and best located near the diff. Car was lowered about 1" and harder springs. Never had an issue.

Triumph TR4's have them under the axle too.
If you exit at the sill its fine for a track only car but leaves, dirt and garbage at the side of the road cause problems for a road car that the gases blow about, which is why my Lotus 7 replica took me several hours to get the exhaust out at the back where its best.
