Carb float chamber overflows

The AUD 663s I've picked up as spares have a brass tube on the chamber top to fit those plastic tubes to direct overflow to the bottom of the engine bay somewhere. Wherers as the AUD 545s just have a small hole under the feed and they overflow all over the top of the chamber.
What's the general opinion - is it worth fitting the tops of the 663s to the carbs on the car or should I keep it standard?

Well, considering the chamber top on the front AUD 545 would drip all over the alternator, I swapped to the ones off the AUD 663s and fitted the green plastic tubes so the'll drip out the bottom of the engine bay. Kept the 545 tags though.

So why'd the early cars (first 5000 or so?) not have the fittings for the plastic tubes?

How come the AUD 545's for sale here - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Old-Stock-Pa ... SwbZpe4~L6 - have fitments for overflow tubes and mine didn't?

My front one would've leaked all over the alternator if the float needle had stuck!
