It all started by trying to clean up the engine bay. The wiper motor case was rusty and I thought " I'll take the cover off and paint it' instead of masking all surrounding things.
Something I now regret
I took it off easily by undoing two bolts, and prepared and painted it and it looked good.When I tried to put it back on I struggled but finally got it in place. Then I switched on and nothing happened.
So I had to take the whole wiper motor off to see what I had done.Not an easy task, When I looked inside I had destroyed the carbon brushes so I ordered new ones at a cost of £20 inc.
I have now rebuilt the motor and before I fitted it back I plugged in the wires and it ran ok.
I then struggled to put back in the car and it worked and parked ok. BUT the wiper is so Slow something obviously is wrong and I don't know what.
Speed one is faster than speed two instead of the other way round.
Any suggestions? Or has anyone got a wiper motor for sale, It's a 1972 1850.

Noooooooooooo! Keep messing, some of the best learning experiences come from plunging in head first before you realise how far out of your depth you are!
I had no idea what I was doing when I rebuilt my Spitfire gearbox, but read the manual and did my best and here we are 10,000 miles late and it still works!

Sounds like the wiring is muddled up somewhere to me, not that familiar with the dolomite motor arrangement though.

The obvious bodge is to cut and splice the wires that control the two speed settings, to get them back in the right order.

I have a wiper motor here amongst Jon Tilson's things if you want one, it's dated 46th week of 1977, but as far as I'm aware there was only the one type fitted. It would be £4 postage plus whatever you'd like to pay for it, the balance going to Mrs Tilson which she is then giving to worthy causes.

There is an odd wiper motor that fits later Toledos (maybe 1500TC too) with 2 speed wipers. I found this out the hard way! The locating holes for the 3 fixing screws in the motor mount plate are in a different orientation to the stock Dolomite one. One such is on my 73 Toledo, I tried to fit a Dolomite motor to the Toledo plate because the Toledo motor's park switch was erratic (it's failed altogether now) and failed miserably.

But a 77 motor like Aluns should be OK, the Toledo was gone by then!
