Removing Sprint tail pipe?

What's involved in removing a Sprint twin tail pipe.

I tried this morning but couldn't get it out, is there a way of getting it out without removing any parts - as I don't want to start stripping the rear of the car yet.

If my memory serves me right Murdo remove the wheel and a twist and turn through the wheel arch gets them out.

Yes, you wind them (in and) out with the nearside wheel off and the weight of the car taken off the suspension so the axle drops.

Great, now just to manage it. It's snagging on the tie bar, but I'll remove the wheel and start afresh tomorrow.

Having just done this on my car you will be best putting the car on your (very nice)!) two post lift and raising it well off the floor. I found I had to point the tailpipe end down a lot in order to get the other end over the tie bar. Initially I didn't jack the car up high enough. It will be a doddle on your lift!

I took the NS rear wheel off, and after a wee while did manage to get it off by using the wheel arch space, thanks!

It is however the first time since I got the ramp (in February I think) that its design made a job quite a bit harder. I expected it though, as the twin boxes sit just above the cross beam. I got the passenger box off with no real issue, but the one attached to the front pipe was nothing short of a 'pig of a job'....

I had no movement to loosen the joint, and it was tight - I got it off after quite some time, but a wee bit of dressing's going to be needed on the end of the front pipe.

I used to always remove rear wheel and the bottom bolt of the rear shocker & push the shocker out of the way, as stated in the Haynes manual.

The standard Sprint exhaust design has always baffled me. It seems pointlessly complex, when you can easily run an exhaust through front to back. I can't even see any cost saving with the standard design.

Looked at one way, it's a clever use of the otherwise wasted space under the front seats and allows the silencer free tailpipes more clearance under the long tail overhang, so less risk of accidental grounding.

However, from a gasflow perspective it's an unmitigated disaster! All those short radius 90 degree bends cost you horsepower, not to mention the 180 bends the gases have to negotiate INSIDE the silencers! It's little wonder that a "Sports" exhaust is one of the most popular mods for a Sprint.
