Hi, I need to change ball joints and brake wheel cylinders on a sprint, who would supply quality parts. I also need the brake pipe that connects the wheel cylinders across the axle, I seem to remember reading that they can be supplied ready made but i cant remember who buy, any help would be appreciated. Terry.

New parts seem a bit of a lottery, for ball joints I'd try and track down NOS. On the Spitfire when I needed rear wheel cylinders I managed to track down new quality branded rebuild kits and refurbed my old ones rather than "risk" the new ones.
(As you can probably tell I'm deeply suspicious of new parts!)
New brake lines should be fine though! I'm sure somebody round here can make one up for you?

The main problem i have found with ball joints is that the boots are absolute poo!!!! Just buy some decent boots before you fit them.

I cam make any or all brake pipes you need in copper or Kunifer, I don't need patterns, I have all the measurements to hand.

One for the back axle is £7.50 posted. Or I just happen to have a full set made up in Kunifer for a single circuit standard Sprint which you can have for the bargain price of £45 posted. I don't normally stock sets, but make them to order, This set was made for a customer who kept changing his mind on what he wanted till it was easier to do a full new set!

The Club also sell replacement ball joint gaiters.

I bought a job lot of top ball joints before I realised they'd been remanufactured; I have a few left and will sell a pair for £28 each which works out at £60 inc postage to a UK address. Whatever supplier you buy new ones from today, they are all sourced from the same factory!

Your other option is to source a pair of rebuildable joints, identified by having a blanking bolt on the top where a grease nipple can be fitted, and rebuilding them with a £15 kit from T D Fitchetts

I wished i had known about the club gaiters Alun. I really should think before hand I did need the lower boots for my 2500S as well though.

Sadly the last ones I got from the club lasted to the next MOT and needed replacing. I didn't check them before I took it in having replaced them due to an advisory the year before and they had gone and were an advisory again. Decided to change the whole lot, ball joints included with greaseable ones from Moss. These seem to have lasted until I sold the car in July.

Not a knock at the club, just on the quality of parts available across the board.

Useful information Rob, I'd not heard bad feedback previously. Did you let Club spares know? Perhaps we need to look to our supplier...

The aftermarket ones do miss one little detail and that's grease. I drill a hole in every new balljoint and fit a grease nipple. Pump some grease in till it comes out under the dustboot and these balljoints will last ages.

No Alun I just accepted that the gaitors all come from limited suppliers and are typical of the quality of rubber we now expect.
