Slight problem, tried to fit gear knob cap and it doesn't fit. There is nothing on the cap to engage with the gear knob, I have the alloy replacement one. It looks like the molding on the new cap is incomplete. Does anybody know where I can buy one which will actually fit?

OK I have kind of resolved it. Found another one in the garage, still not the most secure fit but at least it stays on. Comparing this with the first one I tried, the one that wouldn't stay on is slightly larger and made of more flimsy plastic. Basically another duff part.

You’re not alone chaps. I bought one of those too. Absolute rubbish. Told the vendor, they promptly refunded me, and didn’t want the cap sending back. So, in the bin it went.
I’ll make do with the original one I have, even if the white is missing on the selector pattern. I have thought of painting the white back in, but haven’t got around to it.

I no longer bother, the design (cap and wiring) isn't that good. After regularly closing the 12v circuit myself when touching the gearstick I ended up placing a toggle switch on the tray, next to the gear lever. Now toggling my way through secondary roads with my arm in a lower, more comfy position.

Ah so it isn't just me. Unbelievable that parts manufacturers can't even produce this part correctly. All they had to do to check it was attempt to fit it, to see it doesn't work.

What type of paint did you use, is there anything in particular that works best?

It was so long ago i cannot honestly remember but it would have been some form of craft paint for plastic and a very fine brush.
