Dolomite axles.

I recently bought a Dolomite 1500 with a Rover V8 in it. It Would only run when you poured petrol down the Holley carb, then I got it to start by itself, but would only run when the choke was on, Holley 390cfms now cost a fortune, so I bought a Chinese one, £200 delivered, bargain! Now starting to look at other things, and I have a horrible feeling that the rear axle is its 1500 one, which I don't think will last very long!

So, I suppose I need a Sprint one, but what makes a Sprint one different to other Dolomite axles?

Totally different beast, the sprint axles originates in teh TR and big saloons. All teh rest are derived from the herald/spitfire range. And inherently weak.

Depending what box you use, powerband etc you may want something with a longer ratio than the sprint 3.45. TR7 axles, I think, can be fitted with rover Sdi diffs. Or something from Ford?

The 150 axle looks very different to the sprint on so easy to tell apart.

if you post a pic or the axle number which is stamped on the lower flat edge someone will confirm which you have.

If there is a removable cover at the rear of the diff it is sprint, lower in the pic below.
If the diff casing bolts into the front of the axle it is 1300/1500/1850, top in the pic.

Had a look under the car, and yes, it is the original axle! Anyone got a Sprint one they could sell me please?
