dolomite 1300 clutch noise

Having just sorted clutch slave again, 200 miles later there is a curious noise /felling from the clutch. It only happens as one depresses the clutch (not on release), whether engine is running or not, in gear or neutral. It feels like a scrape, moment of resistance about halfway down the pedals travel. everything works fine. Have had a friend underneath, definitely there is a scratch / squelch noise from inside the bell housing.
Any thoughts? Clutch release mechanism / bearing?
Thanks All (Happy New Year too!)

It's probably worth a check on the clutch release Fulcrum pin (the pin the clutch release mechanism pivots on) it's not unknown for them to drop out of the bell housing as they are only held in by a tolerance ring. You do not need to dismantle anything to check it's in position as this can be done by an external visual check on the bell housing to see if the ends are still visible.

I recommend fitting what I believe was the later design of pin which if fitted from above can not fall out because it has a wider bit at its top. See the photo that I will attach. It shows the original and later designs of pin. I believe the part number is ULC2713.

If you are lucky you might be able to fit it without taking the bell housing off.

Wouldn't the Dolomite 1300 have the later pin fitted from factory?

My 1976 1500 Dolomite did not and I do not know when they started fitting them.

I think the mushroom head pin may have been an aftermarket solution taken up by the factory. The pin dislocating and falling out was a common problem on Heralds etc from the early 60s onwards (same part exactly) and may go back further than that to the Standard 8/10. I don't RECALL it being factory standard fit on even the last 1500s, HL or SE. It's a useful upgrade now though. I can remember, back in the day, bashing a mushroom head onto a stock pin, so it'd stay in! Changing the clip/ring/tube thing that retained it was a gearbox out job! Whereas slotting the pin in only required the tunnel to be removed, a really simple task on a Herald, especially if it'd been out before and was only held in with a handful of tappers!
