Although I have owned my 1500HL for some time this is the first time I have posted. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
The car has sat for some time unused after someone broke in smashing the rear door vent glass and ripping off the steering column.
I have now replaced the steering column and will be looking to replace the glass shortly.
I have replaced all of the rubber sections in the fuel lines as they had split and also having replaced the battery the car now starts reasonably well.
My question is with regards to the fuel pump, when the engine is running there are small amounts of petrol being pushed out of the small hole in the side of the fuel pump.
Do I assume that there is a rubber part inside the pump that has split or perished? Is this rubber part replaceable or do I need to replace the complete pump?

Better replacing the pump i'm afraid. They aren't expensive.

I was aiming to keep as much as original as possible but guess this isn't always going to be possible and in reality doesn't really matter as it will be more about getting the car back on the road and being as reliable (and safe - no fuel escaping) as is possible!

Rebuild kits are available, bit of a fiddle to do but doable at home.
New pumps seem to be too high a pressure and require a regulator.

Hope you used proper branded R9 etc fuel hose......especially with E10 now in general use.

You should check your oil level has not risen. If petrol is coming out of this vent, then it is leaking past the diaphragm and can drain to the sump. This will dilute the oil.

The type of pump shown in your photo can not be repaired and needs to be replaced.

Looking again you are indeed correct. I saw it was an AC pump, and assumed it could be taken apart, but it appears to be "sealed"

I used R6 fuel hose as image, what is the difference between R6 & R9?

Permeation levels and pressure. R9 has much lower levels of fuel permeation - 15 vs 600ppm and is rated for high pressure fuel injection systems.

As your car, and all unmodified Toledos and Dolomites, have low pressure carburettor fuel systems R6 is OK but R9 is better. The general recommendation these days is to fit good quality R9 hose.

the pump is foobarred, the diaphragm has split and these are not rebuildable as the lip is pressed not screwed on like the slightly earlier ones, there is one screw on the top but that only accesses the filter.
I should have a used spare one in my box box of ' bits that may be useful one day'
