BW65 selector shaft seal/o-ring

#1 Post by yorkshire_spam »

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the seal/o-rings on the selector shaft with the gearbox intact or whether it needs a partial strip down to remove the shaft to get the seal in/out?
Cheers,
Sam

Has it got a selector shaft which is exposed on both sides of the box? If so which side is the problem?

IIRC on the servo side you have to remove the servo housing cover, as the seal is just an "O" in a groove in the housing, which won't come out with the shaft in place, but the housing will come off with the box in the car. On the other side it should just prise out, but putting them back in can be awkward because a step on the shaft can make the lip of the seal roll outwards, making the spring in the seal fall out, so buy more thn one of those. Just be careful and maintain a high level of cleanliness.

Thanks Harvey, the leak is on the drives/off/right (depending on your preferred "notation") side of the car/box.

That side is the front servo cover, so that has to be removed, the "O" ring for the selector shaft in the cover replaced, then IIRC there's a larger "O" ring that seals the servo cover to the main casing.
