Sprint Gearbox Remove

Had fun and Games removing my Sprint Gearbox today   i was removing it from under the car,are you meant to remove the gearbox tunnel from inside the car ? i didnt and found the gearbox keep touching round the gearbox tunnel

Forgot to take photos but think this isnt right, the clutch cross shaft where the fork attaches, has the bolt in place with the wire wrapped round, but its also been welded the cross shaft to the fork

The main reason for removing the gearbox was a load of oil leaking fom the crankshaft, ive bought a double lip rear oil seal to go in its place

The fork shouldn't be welded to the shaft, no.

Far far easier with the transmission tunnel removed, yes!

Thanks, also can you buy the seal for the transmission tunnel ?

Dave
Don't be daft! Of course you can't get a new one! There are as many different ways round this as there are restorers, for myself a squeeze of screen sealer (non setting) is pretty ideal. Even the original, once squashed is hard to get back in place.

Think they are around, I fitted one last year or so supplied by owner. Not cheap mind! If the old one is welded in, it's dollars to doughnuts you'll have to cut it to bits with a disc cutter to get it out and need a new fork too!

Got the cross shaft out today, cut the fork to get the cross shaft out,
Are the gearbox tunnels the same for all models ? if not how do i know if mines a Sprint one ?

I can tell a tunnel by looking at it! The hole the tunnel fits to the edge of (and therefore the seal strip) are the same size and shape on all models but the tunnels vary considerably. There are at least 7, not counting the FWD. Put a pic or two up!

But if it fitted round the gear lever and didn't touch the box anywhere, chances are, it's the right one. Because the Sprint tunnel is the biggest, tallest and fattest of them all.

Is the clutch cross shaft threaded where the pinch bolt goes through ?, or is it just a hole ?

Thanks Dave

It's just a hole, the threaded part of the pin screws into the fork.
