Re: sprint exhaust manifold
I understand if you get cast iron red hot you can weld it...but happy to be corrected...
Re: sprint exhaust manifold
You certainly can. The two guys that run my local forge have often cut and welded cast-iron guttering for me, to make up special shaped pieces.
Re: sprint exhaust manifold
The combination of the words cast iron AND manifold makes it almost never a succes. Many claim they can but had in my life a lot cast iron manifolds welded just because these were from rare classics or excotics and not available but all who tried failed. Different specialised companies over the years and all welding during the casting being red hot.new to this wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 7:44 pm Hi can cast iron manifolds be welded ? theres a small corner of my Sprint manifold broken of

It's the stress from the constant heat and cool down in an exhaust manifold that makes the weld break again.
Better source another manifold to save you some trouble and frustration.

I also had a chat with them at the NEC, as it is a field which interests me.
The company is called CIWS cast iron welding services. No connection to me.
If I remember correctly, they heat the item , then gas weld it using a filler rod which they manufacture themselves with a suitable composition.
They had one or two interesting items on their stand.
