I was looking at my sprint parts manual ,Haynes Manual and workshop manual and noticed that the expansion bottle is different to the one fitted to my car as per the pictures, my outlet comes out of the bottom, and i also see that the expansion pipe in on the thermostat housing as per the parts book is also different being raised up where as mine is level, which one is right or are they both right. Also should the expansion pipe go under the top hose and connect on to the expansion bottle (as per my picture,) or go over the top of the top hose. hopfully i have done the pictures right and you can see them.

The one in the parts manual is fitted to the early cars and is a nice brass affair. Later models had the plastic one like yours.

You also have the later (correct) thermostat housing fitted; there were actually three designs.

I always plumb the expansion pipe under the top hose to reduce likelihood of it chafing on the rib on the underside of bonnet. The servo vacuum pipe can also suffer from this

I have both and I prefer the plastic one because you can see the coolant level and any gas bubbles at a glance.
