I want to get a leccy fan to fit the Tolly Sprint I'm building. I believe, from memory, I need a 12" to fit a Sprint rad? Any recommendations? I'm probably going to use an LMA Fan Controller Thermostat (or similar) rather than the lump you push up the hose.

I just bought a 14" fan and controllerfor my TR7 from these guys. It arrived the next day and seems pretty good at a fraction of the price of a Revotec.

Bought my last couple of fans from Simonbbc (of accuspark fame) on ebay at circa £40 a pop. But all my sender switches and in-hose fittings have come from Stoney Racing

IIRC the 12" fan is just a tad too big for a standard Sprint rd and 11" is better (but harder to find)

Finally, recent experience with both Revotec and Stoney's fan senders has caused me to fit a manual over-ride switch inside the car on all my leccy fan equipped cars! I should note that both failed switches were several years old, but still!

Not sure if any of this info will be of any use, but I spoke to Revotec directly and they were very helpful.

I installed the Fan but had to make up my own brackets
The Fan came on exactly when needed, and was very quiet and nicely balanced, you could hardly tell it was running, the car was running static for about half an hour all told, and the temperature was rock steady at just about the half way mark on the gauge.

I added some pics, but that doesn't seemed to have happened!!

Thanks guys for your input. I have gone for a 12" from Stoney Racing. I have 300mm. between top & bottom surrounds so this should just fit.

Steve M: I couldn't help noticing that your controller is on the bottom hose so measuring the temp. of the cooled water through the rad. and not on the top hose measuring the hot water from the engine?

I have a Revotec thermostatic controller in the top hose of my MGB V8 and I find the difference between switch on and switch off is too large, so the fans tend to run continuously until you can get going at 30 mph again. I wonder if putting it in the bottom hose would make a difference?

sticking the controller on the bottom hose was one of those things where you researched and found so many different views that in the end I had to make a decision and hope it was right, or it would still be sitting in the box now

In the end I went with my own feel and I think it was right for my sprint, as mentioned it works as expected and putting the controller on the bottom hose its much more discrete, it might not be right for everyone's setup though.

Going back to 11" or 12", the particular fan I have (11") couldn't have been a better fit, its has a flat on the top and bottom of the fan housing which perfectly fits on the core butting up to the radiator housing stopping any movement, hope this helps anyone thinking of going electric fan

Top v Bottom sensor is horrific to research, but both are used in OEM and both work fine. The bottom hose sensor just needs to be set at a lower temp (about 5 degrees) than a top sensor. I bought a M22 twin output sensor, dirt cheap, and it works just fine. That is on my red spitfire.

As to fans, I like the Spal stuff. Again, they are a proper manufacturer, used in OEM and on WRC stuff, so you have some reassurance you are getting a quality item that actually matches teh specification quoted.
The fans really need to be shrouded, or right up against the core, if they are to be efficient.

Thanks Steve M, as you said, as long as it works it doesn't really matter which position you mount it as long as you lower the cut in/out temps. of the stat. if positioned on the bottom hose. I have ordered a 95/85 stat so I will be positioning mine on the top hose.
