Hi all,
I’m going to start rebuilding the front and rear doors with windows, quarterlights and winders. What’s the general order ? Can I fit the winder, glass stop and anti-drum stiffener first. Once I’ve done that fit the glass ?
Any tips welcome !!
Thanks, Richard

On the front door, drop the glass in the door first, then fit the 1/4 light, followed by the channelling for main glass. Push the glass up into the opening, engage the winder in the channel in the glass and bolt it home. finish off with anti-drum panel, rear channel and inner/outer weatherstrips. Only when everything is working smoothly should you rivet the quarterlight into position. A tip here is that the quarterlight will tend to want to go too far forward and down which will make the drop glass too loose at the top and tight at the bottom. Leave the rivets OUT and the securing bolts loose till the window is in with all stripping and wound up tight. Then open the quarterlight and tug the upright frame backwards and up till it fits against the closed window snugly but not too tight. Only then should you tighten the 1/4 light securing screws, check the drop window for smooth operation and fit the rivets (don't be afraid to drill fresh holes if needed)

Rear door is similar, drop the glass in the bottom of the door and fit the rear 1/4 light, then wangle the chrome upright into place round the droplight and up against the 1/4 light glass. Now fit the U channel in the top and front of the window frame and push the drop glass up into the space, locate the winder in the channel in the drop glass and bolt it to the door. Finally fit the drum panel and weatherstrips.

Thanks Steve.

I can do all of that with the window winders and lock mechanisms in place ?

Cheers, Richard

Locks, latches, handles, rods and all else to do with them can go in first, but the winders need to go in after the glass is in position. There's not enough wriggle room to get the round plastic bush on the winder into the channel on the bottom of the glass if the winder is bolted in place first.
