I was trying to fit a Lumenition Optronic Ignition (PMA50) to the Tolly Sprint project. I got so far before realising I didn't have the plastic "chopper" part. It must have gotten lost. Has anyone got a spare or can provide me with the fitting kit number so that I can try to find one on-line. There is a guy selling loads of them on Ebay but without the correct part no. I'm stuffed.

Martin

See above, Lumenitions catalogue. It's possibly not very helpful as it says "Dolomite Sprint - kit not suitable due to lack of clearance". So not sure what kit you are fitting.... The standard Lucas 45D chopper is an FK117.

Many thanks Matt. The Lumenition was bought circa 10 years ago and came with the Tolly, along with many other parts. The owner asked if I could fit it so I assumed (there's that word again) it would fit. Looks like it won't.

Don't want to contradict Lumenition, but it WILL fit, i've done it last year.

I had a lumenition kit that came with my 1500FWD (25D4 distibutor) and which I didn't want to give away with the engine, so salvaged it and put some points in.

Then a customer wanted something for his Sprint and I had this Lumenition..........

I had to buy a new chopper (Ebay, £22 ish) for 45D dizzy as the 25D one was too small. I used a 45D rotor and Ambassador cap, you DO need the taller rotor, but, apparently, according to research not done by me, you can get the taller rotor under a stock cap, but I didn't know this last year when I did this fit!

I'v tried unsuccessfully to find the bill for the chopper with part number on it for you, but I didn't have a part number either, I just bought one that said it was for 45D4!

HTH, Steve

That makes entire sense as the Ambassador cap and rotor would give more room for the lumenition...
So FK117 chopper, Ambassador cap, standard 45D rotor.

But didn't Steve say you can fit the FK117 chopper with the 45D rotor under a standard Sprint cap?

I said it, but I haven't tried it (though I will, first chance I get) It cropped up in one of (I think) Graham Fountains recent posts. That's why I put in "apparently", I won't say it works till i've proven it myself!

But you're welcome to try Mart and save me the bother!

Steve
