I've just changed my nearside engine mount on SWK (which was probably the original and a bit soggy ) for one of Chris Witor's new versions. It fit first time, and the car seems quieter. So all good ! Thanks Richard for steering this project through.
One slight problem is that I found a 10mm steel spacer between the old engine mount and the sub-frame, which is not listed in either the early or the late parts book.
I cleaned it up and put it back on the grounds that it had always been there.
Any idea why it has been fitted please ? The gearbox is straight and level as normal.
It did occur to me that it might be a left-over from SWK's history as a CVT test bed in its early years.

Anybody else with an 1850 got one of these please ?

Never noticed one on ours when I've had then engine out, but also, to be honest, never looked that closely. Next time I get chance I'll have a look specifically.

Probably some home made thing to correct saggy mounts.

Not seen spacers on any 1850 I've owned or worked on....
I'd agree with you, it's left over from it being an experimental car.

Thanks very much for your responses. Today was the day I earmarked to replace the offside mount as well with one of Chris Wittor's finest. It is much easier to do the offside mount on the 1850. The exhaust manifold doesn't get in the way.
The mount itself just fell off. It looks as if it had parted company with the backing plate sometime ago, but you can't tell as the mount is in compression.
And there underneath the mount was yet another 10 mm thick piece of mild steel as a spacer. So the same both sides.
I replaced this so it would be the same both sides. I had quite a bit of trouble lining things up and getting the bolts in but I took a bit of metal off the mounting bracket and in it went.
Are either of SWK's previous owners on here still please ? I remember I bought it off "curley ?? " in South Wales and the previous long term owner was in Preston, Lancs. Please P.M. me if so.
