Having acquired a NOS Sprint fuel tank for VA138 (cheers James Turnbull!) whilst it looks ok inside from what I can see, I'm pretty sure I should clean it out and then probably 'seal' or treat it with something before I fit it?

Just asking for some advice or guidance really on what to do as I see there are loads of products on the market and I've seen a few on Frosts' etc. and have no idea how to proceed, so chaps, any ideas or advice please?

Is there a filter gauze at the end of the pick-up pipe? I had a brand new tank for an MG Midget and I treated it to an internal coat of sealant, only to find that the compound completely blocked the gauze rendering a new tank to scrap.

The pick up pipe screws in with a straight tube inside the tank, so I don't think so Mike...

Adding a bit of Castrol oil to the fuel should help stop the rusting.

No really, don't use any sealers. A few years ago I could recommend you a good sealer but with the current fuel issue's the good old's aren't that good anymore. In the motorcycle world where old tanks sealing is a bit more common a lot have problems now of dissolving sealer or chunk's falling of and floating around in the fueltank.

I would not thrust any manufacturer who claims ethanol proof as real life testing hasn't been done yet as most old proven sealers going wrong now.

I put a aluminum knitting needle of the same diameter up the the pipe when I did mine as the internal feed pipe is brazed in an non removable to stop it blocking up, then removed it once set.

I used the Frosts kit, that must of been around 12 years ago and it's still good despite the comings and goings of different types of petrol.
