I'm a fool.

#1 Post by alvera »

A friend of mine came to look at my 1850 and in showing him the electric aerial I left the ignition on over night. When I came into the garage the next day there was a very strong smell of petrol and the electric pump was ticking away. When I took the air cleaner off it was half full of petrol.I don't understand how this can happen as normally when I start the car the pump stops after a couple of clicks. And as I have just overhauled the carbs and fitted new valves in the float chamber its hard to figure it out.

New needle valve leaking slightly making the carbs slowly fill all the time?

The pump is probably far too powerful for the needle valves, SUs only need 1.5 psi and most electric pumps are at least 5 psi.
