The screen wash pump on my 1975 Sprint pumps fluid intermittently. Any suggestions as to where the problem is? Thanks.

There is a rubber impeller inside the motor assembly which can deteriorate...

Also, a simpler solution is nasty stuff can grow on the end of the pick up pipe and block the gauze filter restricting flow...

Is the pump running even when you get no water?
If so, then a blockage or a faulty pump as per Alun's suggestion.

Ours is intermittent, but it's the switch in the stalk, pushing it in a certain way seems to work.

The pump switches on even if there's no water. It's not a problem of irregular flow when I activate the screen washer. The issue is that the pump comes on by itself at random.

Possibly a short in the switch then...or at the connectors to the motor...

The problem is solved! On the wiper stalk the "housing" retaining the spring had broken. This meant that the conical copper contact operated by the spring was not disengaging properly. A drop of superglue resolved the issue.

You ae commended for trying to track the problem down for 10 months, most would have give up long ago
