Correctly fitting spigot bush retaining plate

Already had one of these shatter, so I want to get this right. I have fitted it with the bush pointing inwards towards the flywheel. Now to my eye something looks wrong, as there is a gap between the retaining plate and the spigot bush. Which I would have thought would have allowed the bush to move, smashing the retaining plate.
To confuse things further, the Dolomite Sprint Parts Catalogue diagram shows the retaining plate pointing outwards, not inwards. So what is the correct way to fit this?

The spigot bush should be 3/4" long. The retaining plate should go with the dished side towards the flywheel, as you have done.

I will measure it once I have taken it out of the oil. It could be I am worrying about nothing and the bush is actually held in place by the end of the gearbox input shaft.
I asked about orientation of the plate because of this diagram:

Where it appears to be the other way round. To be fair Haynes little book of lies doesn't even mention you have to fit one.

Thanks, so I did have it right.
Though that plate does appear to have some hairline cracks that would concern me.
