Have had a good look through the Forum threads to see if any responses were posted re the bolts for the Sprint lower steering knuckle - commonly marked as FAM1718. The poly bushes for this knuckle seem to be quite readily available but not so the bolts with the pre-drilled hole for the security wire - or the actual wire. Are these bolts & wire still available or is our only alternative to use the FAM1718UJ as supplied by Rimmer Bros?

Saw that UJ from CBS - it looks substantial and probably the way to go.
The steering on my Sprint has been pretty 'vague' for a while so decided to sort it out. Found a fair bit of play in the front wheel bearings which has now been resolved and as there was still too much freeplay at the steering wheel removed the short shaft and knuckle as well as the column bush which was well shot.
I decided to go for new SPF bushes for the knuckle and a new SPF columm bush (arriving today). As the shoulder bolts wouldn't move with my Torx bit I removed them by filing down the peened end to reveal the small centre point of the thread end then carefully drilled out the centre of the thread first with a 3mm then a 5mm drill bit to ease the bolt removal.
My worry now is I should be able to buy replacement Torx Shoulder bolts but how to ensure they don't loosen later on. Do I buy the bolts with longer threads then drill holes to fit security wire (as they were originally) or peen the e d over. If the latter how do I prevent the force from belting them with a suitable item ruining the new SPF bushes??
