Since the locking fuel cap was never a factory fit, but merely a dealer fit cost option and usually made by an aftermarket supplier like Waso, the answer is generally NO! In general, the keys don't even have a blank in common,

HOWEVER, I have owned one Dolomite which had only 2 keys, 1 for door and ignition and the other fitted all 3 subsidiary locks, glovebox boot and fuel cap. And I have a customer Toledo here presently that has an FS key operated fuel cap, though of a different number key to that used on the boot. So technically, it COULD be done. BUT you'd have to find an FS cap first (not easy) and then take it a locksmith or match the tumblers yourself (tricky but not impossible) in order to achieve something that was never (or very rarely) done in real life.

Locking fuel caps for our cars seem to be in extremely short supply, I guess the attrition rate on long time stored/barn find cars gets pretty high with lost keys and stuck locks. When I needed one a year or so ago, all I could find new was a black one from Fitchetts for nearly £50. Fortunately the black finish was acceptable as the car was a 1980 Sprint with black mirrors etc, most folk want chrome finish ones!

A final warning to anyone seeking a locking cap, The Triumph 2000 MKI locking cap looks identical and fits the car. But it lacks the all important vent hole and will cause you endless fuel starvation problems and maybe cave your tank in with vacuum!

My key opens both doors ign and fuel cap, trying to find out if I can get repro triumph key blanks BL style plastic ends, Rimmers have them, but Im not sure if all Triumph keys are the same type ie FS, or FT etc, my original key is starting to fall apart, the key has no ID on it that I can see and is the only one I have.

I got one from my local independant key-cutting place.
It is marked with a stylised " JMA " on one side and " UN " and " NH " on the other . I don't think that style of key was ever marked with a lock number.

Sometime during the early 1980s, fears about theft of petrol by siphoning or deliberate contamination (e.g. water, diesel or sugar, etc) of petrol as a stupid prank (an activity which was not unknown amongst my fellow university students!) or malicious act, prompted me to purchase and retro-fit a CBS lockable fuel-filler cap, from one of my local car accessory shops; details of which are as follows:

CBS (automotive & industrial) Ltd., Bone Lane, Newbury, Berkshire.

CBS Locking Petrol Cap CL 20, for the following Triumph cars:

Herald and Estate 1200, 12/50, 13/60,
Vitesse 1600 & 2000, 1300, 1300 & TC | 60-
Toledo, 1500, Dolomite | 71-
2000 series II | 63/64
2000 series III | 66/67

The key to my CBS Locking Petrol Cap CL 20, is of a different pattern to my two factory-supplied 1974 Triumph Toledo keys; one for the front doors & ignition and one for the glove box & boot lid. My only other key, is for RAC & AA telephone boxes, that contain (or at least did in the past contain) a standard British Telecom public telephone!

If you have an FS number for the fuel cap key, I can check my copious number of boot and glove box locks to see if I have a match…possibly an easier solution…

Yes you can remove it and I’d recommend doing so.
Due to the nature of what it does it can get stuck/ damaged over time.
A lot of care and delicate movement can work it free.
Copious amounts of a freeing agent think I did use wd40 but knowing that it’s not good for long term lubrication of locks, once free used some graphite.
