Sprint recon steering racks

#1 Post by Yellow Banana »

Hi all,

Today’s subject is steering racks. I mentioned last year that I might need to replace the rack in my '75 Sprint but didn’t get round to it. Now, with the long drive up to the TDCIR in Stockport (from Plymouth) looming, I’m thinking I might try again.

I’ve yet to contact Alan (Spares) to see if he has any racks available since he last had a few to send away for reconditioning but have also looked at what is available online. Here are my findings:

Robsport Part RKC270R No price shown (need to call) with £100 + vat surcharge

James Paddock Part 305932R £92.50 with £75 surcharge (vat poss to be added)

Rimmers Part RKC270R £147.60 with £120 surcharge (vat included)

TD Fitchett Part 306829 £75 with £75 surcharge (vat poss to be added)

Wins Int Part RKC270R £97.50 with £60 surcharge (vat poss to be added)

I haven’t put any parts into their baskets so not sure if they all carry the racks in stock (think Rimmers do)

So – has anyone bought one of the above racks, when, how much and how are they facing up to use? Or is there anywhere else to be recommended?

Cheers all

We currently have two racks on the shelf in Club spares and I have half a dozen at the reconditioners ready to collect.

I have gone into chapter and verse about what is done to the racks in the name of 'reconditioning' on other threads previously and am not going to repeat it here, but it really is a case of you get what you pay for. You can chance paying cheaper and you might be lucky to get a good low mileage unit, or you might get one with a bent or worn rack bar that causes problems for you after only a few miles.

Club racks are currently £165.00 inc carriage, but now with a £50 surcharge as folk were simply not sending their exchange units back to us.

Hi Alan, thanks for the quick response. I did read your previous posts re how some racks are "reconditioned" - or not, that's why I 'd prefer to get one from the club.
I' ve got a steering check hopefully booked in down here so should know if the rack is OK or not. Will come back to you. Cheers.
