Water pump cover I.D.

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

I have found an old Dolomite water-pump cover.
It is marked V3309 then PBM1 and the B.L. logo.
Is this a 6 vane or a 12 vane cover please ?

Thanks,
Tony.

Turn it over and slide your finger down the chamfer; if it lands on the other side of the central ‘button’ it’s 12, if it lands on the same side it’s a 6

sorry for the thread resurrection, chasing up this very topic. I have just taken the pump cover off my sprint with the same casting marks and found it is a late 6 vane cover. I also have to more covers with the same ID but PBM2 cast onto them. They are also late 6 vane covers. I thought you might have found the answer to IDing these without removing them to look underneath. Alas, no.

Sorry, I forgot to acknowledge Alun's input on this.
Yes, the water pump cover I have is a 6-vane type so I have marked it up as such.
Good test !
Thanks Alun.
Cheers for now,
Tony.
