My new club stainless exhaust.

Just a quick note to say I have just received my stainless exhaust purchased through the club spares scheme and I am very pleased with it. Not fitted yet, but looks a very well made product and worth the 8 weeks wait. I am going to order new studs and nuts for the manifold before I attempt to fit it, as the originals have been on there for 44 years, and I don`t hold out much hope that they will come undone, and may as well fit all new mounting hardware and rubbers while I am at it.

You have not stated what model dolomite you have but for my 1500cc cars when I fit exhaust I always use brass nuts as they do not seize up if you have to get them off again. You can also get double length nuts from Moss which can make them easier to tighten up.

I have not purchased a stainless steel exhaust system from the club but based on my experience a long time ago I would recommend that you check the exhaust and the exhaust manifold surfaces are flat. The welding process can distort the exhaust flange.

I also recommend fitting wide tie wrap loosely around the rubber exhaust mounts.

A lot of cars are also missing a supporting bracket from gearbox to exhaust which if fitted helps to extend the life of the exhaust manifold to exhaust downpipe gasket. The are to types one for non O/D cars and one for cars with O/D.

Thanks for he advice, mine is a 1300 Dolly, I have the support bracket from the gearbox but mine bolts straight to a bracket welded on to the front pipe. I have ordered new studs and brass nuts already, and new rubber hangers. Good idea about the tie wraps around the rubbers in case of failure.
