Hi all I am considering stripping down my sprint gearbox with overdrive, is it a difficult job to do? I have it and the engine out at this stage, just thought I would seek your thoughts, I am changing all 4 baulk rings and maybe both hubs.
Thanks
Steve

It's not a difficult job but then again I have done quite a few. A Haynes manual will help guide you.
You may as well replace the main bearings whilst you are there so it helps if you have a press.

And the layshaft and bearings I hope. Did a saloon box for my TR3 before fitting it, not too bad a job, be carefull when re fitting the overdrive unit that you don`t damage the pump plunger, follow the workshop manual carefully and you will be OK. Pay special attention to the end float on 2nd gear, wear in the spacer can give the same effect as bad synchro rings, and badly worn spacers can break up.

Hi Ralph
So sorry I am late in saying thanks for the info and advice as I am just getting use to this site and how it works. Yes, fitting all bearings in the box handy to know about the end float on 2nd gear,
