Can anyone confirm the diameter of the layshaft needle roller bearings used in the Dolly 1500 (and others) single rail gearbox please?

I know there was over 20 years ago a problem with 1500/1850 rollers and the associated lay shafts failing but I do not know if the problem turned out to be the rollers or the associated lay shaft. I have however found on this discussion board that Jon Tilson advised on 21June 2012 "Be very careful with replacement needle rollers."

Hi Mart / Richard. The quick one-line-management-summary is that the diameter of the layshaft rollers is 2.355mm.
This applies to the 1300 / 1500 / 1850 gearboxes . 1980 parts book page 1F 04L refers.
There was quite a detailed discussion on this on one of James 467 resto; threads to which Richard & I both contributed.
https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... le#p314205 on Project DTR.
And yes, Richard's memory on this is quite correct. There were some bad bearings around at one time.
HTH,
Tony.

Thanks guys. I knew there was a previous post somewhere. There was also talk about soft layshafts.
I've got to wait for a few parts so will check when I'm ready to put it all back together.
