Hello all,
What are the real world gut feel for Sprint values? I can't get a decent idea looking at whats been on the market recently. I'm not in the market to sell yet but money and time considerations mean I have to accept a fleet of fun cars is not on the cards for some time so I have to be realistic with myself. I love my Dolly but I can only have a single fun car and there's lots out there I'd like to own - TVR Chimeara is the most likely.
I'm asking to get a feel of how far away I'd be in values between a Sprint and decent Chim - thinking of financial planning.

My Sprint is an early(ish) one (less than VA3500) with some mods - Avos, trackerjacks, tuned engine with rebuilt Dellortos
Paintwork is ok but underneath is solid. It's only had 4 previous owners and I've had it since I was 18 (I'm 43 now - when did that happen!!)

I'm not after an immediate change, more looking at future options. As you can imagine I'm quite attached to it!

Very difficult to say without some decent photos, colour can affect values as can it being a manual or automatic, from what i can make out early Sprints seem to sell for slightly more then later ones, and the really early ones 1st batch Mimosa Sprints etc will sale for even more than any other Sprint of a similar condition. Any mods do not necessarily make it more valuable in fact in most cases the reverse can be true. I suppose it depends on the what the prospective buyer is after. A correctly restored to original early spec 1st Batch Mimosa Sprint you are probably looking at 25k plus. Anything else that is in good overall condition will fill the 12 to 20k mark (Earlier the car the closer to 20k it may be), anything needing some work or full restoration below the 10k mark. I have notice that most Sprints that go to auction seem to be priced with a 10k - 12k estimate regardless of era. Whether they actually sale or not is another matter. I know the lovely M reg White one sold late last year and the other later non original ? Sprint that was pitched against it did not.

I have the gut feel that if I wanted I could get the money to wash its face if I wanted to change to a Chimeara.

When I bought mine many years ago I paid £1600 and then £300 extra for a garage worth of spares that included a pair of nos front wings. I still have then unused!
The market for Sprints has massively changed during my ownership

Fundamentally, it is worth what someone is willing to pay and apart from for insurance valuations (what would I have to pay to replace on a like for like basis?) it can be misleading to assign 'values'.

The biggest issue is finding your customer; from my observations cars needing work tend to sell (and often for far more than I'd consider buying), whereas high priced ones hang around on the market for longer. In the current climate £20k is hard for many folk to find.

Assuming the car being in good condition over the last few years values have been steady.

Mine is presently insured for £18k.

I am not sure I would get that for it if I sold today. However I spend a couple of thousand on it every year to try to improve it.

A fully restored one with work done to the highest standards I would be happy to pay north of £20k.

To put that into context however a fully restored mk1 or mk2 Escort is north of £40k so Sprints are great value for money.

It all comes down to the vehicle and the persons budget who is buying it.

Thanks for all the feedback. It's given me food for thought. It will be a tough decision if I do sell!

It is interesting the difference in values between Dollys and Escorts. When I bought my Sprint , if my memory serves me right I could have bought a decent Mexico for a about a grand more.

I totally see that having a valuation is good thing to do. I gues that I wasn't clear as I should have been, all I was after was to see what the realistic range of values of a Sprint.
Perhaps I shouldn't have given any info about my car to keep it more generic

Pay little heed as to what is for sale, look at what has sold. You can, for instance, search ebay for sold items, also for completed items which then differentiates what did and didn't sell...often 'sold' items get re-listed too
