1500 Gearbox - Non-overdrive

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

For sale is a 1500 single-rail non-overdrive gearbox. It is known good working order which has simply been replaced for an overdrive gearbox. I have not done/replaced anything in this box.

Edit: I've just drained the oil and there was a fair amount of iron filings on the drain plug.

I have just stripped & cleaned this gearbox and it is in good condition. I'm now trying to decide whether to just put it all back together, as all the bearings etc. are good & no wear on the shafts, or to splash the cash on it & renew some of the parts.

The problem is you can't be certain that any new parts will be as good as the ones fitted.

Thanks Richard.

I decided to just clean everything up & put it back together. I did replace the front & rear oil seals though.

I was a bit quick with my initial response in that I was only considering the internals which you had checked out.
I think you were right to replace the front and rear seals but I would also replace the speedo drive seal part NKC105 as I changed a rear seal on one car thinking it was that which was leaking only to find out in due course it was the speedo drive. I accept it is not difficult to change at a later point in time but they only cost about £4.
