Indicators Won't Cancel

Hello,
I had some ball joints replaced a while ago, and as usual the 'mechanic' who did the job just took off the steering wheel and 'centred' it after it was tracked up (I've got sick of telling mechanics, you can't just do that - because the indicators won't cancel!)
I have just replaced a well seized OEM steering knuckle and centred the steering correctly (or so I thought), and the indicators still won't cancel.
I'm assuming that the indicator mechanism has been damaged or is worn out and needs replacing?

Theres a indicator cam canceler mounted on the steering column, but removing a steering wheel wont affect the canceling of the indicators

1st thing i would check is the indicator switch there's two plastic arms make sure there not broke
2nd thing you said the steering knuckle was seize when that was replaced, did the steering column turn if so the indicator canceling cam may be in the wrong angle

The cancelling cam is set in position so that it's central (3 o clock) when the steering lock is engaged. But it is POSSIBLE to fit the cam 180 degrees out as it's only secured by a pair of dimples.

As Dave says, take the shroud off and check the arms are on the switch and that the cam is actually there and in the correct orientation.

That's true Dave, but how many times has some numbnuts tyre jockey done tracking, not centred it properly and just reset the steering wheel to make it central rather than doing the job properly? It's one of my pet peeves!

Picture attached with steering wheel off. I can hear a dull click when the wheel goes back to centre, but they don't cancel.
I ordered a new stalk today from ANG.

Yes, Steve. you are correct, every numb-nuts 'mechanic' who's changed anything on the steering just takes the steering wheel off and puts it back straight without centering it properly - I've nearly come to blows with a few over the years who have told me to mind my own business!

I THINK I can maybe see the problem!

The switch is not correctly fitted to the column, you can see an unequal gap around the edge of the column and the screws are not equal lengths in. There is a small lug on the switch which engages in a slot it the top of the column. if its not engaged, it will sit the switch too far out to work.

Youll have to take the shroud off and remove the wiper switch (just leave it dangling off the wires) then loosen the (further in) upper screw and turn the switch gently, maybe move it up or down a tad too, around the column till the lug engages then tighten the crews equally. Think it'll work then!

Hi Steve,
Sorted.
You were correct once again!
Neither the clamp nor the stalk was seated in the locating holes.
I had to play around a bit when I put the shroud back as the stalk was fouling on the bottom half when indicating right. I don't think I had both halves correctly seated the first time

Hmm - wonder how that happened? I've never had need to remove the steering column shroud in the 24 years I've owned the car.

Thanks again everyone for their contributions.

Onto the fan cable.
