I like they way they buried the underside pics after 100 or so others.
Not horrendous, and usual stuff. A days work to remedy? But the amount of overspray is a worry, I do wonder how much filler is in the car.

That's a lot more than a days work my friend, chassis rails looks deformed and very rusty and need renewing and the inner sill welds are awful , and what lies under all that crusty/flaky bits
, it may not be that bad once cleaned up though
, Howard Bowles was a very good restorer if i remember correctly, suppose if it's the right price then all good, the only way is up for Sprint prices at the moment

I'd fail that welding (tacking is more like it) on the drivers sill soffit, were it presented to me for MOT and the passenger front footwell is a mess. The O/S chassis leg is indeed damaged but that's pretty common, tyre shops insist on jacking them where they aren't supposed to! Sills aren't the originals and who knows what is (or isn't!) behind them.
It's not AWFUL and all is fixable with parts available, I've fixed a lot worse! But, like Clive, i'd be going over the body with a magnet before bidding, it looks very much like a "flipper special", pretty on the top for long enough to get it sold! Not nearly as good where it actually MATTERS!
It all comes down to price in the end, buy it right and you can forgive and fix it, buy it wrong and end up with a pretty moneypit! I rather fancy it's worth considerably less than it's reserve! But, to their credit, at least C+C have shown pics of the worst bits, even if it was in the last handful of pics only, a degree of honesty sadly lacking in a lot of ads these days.

it claims to be only 26,000 miles, also to have been 'restored', how extensive was the restoration? it does look a mess underneath, a few patches tacked on, the over spray; so simple to brush on some black stone chip.
be interesting to see what this goes for.

Paperwork shows 99000 in 1994 & 4000 in 1995, so are we thinking 126000?

That would be my guess, but not so much an issue if it's had a decent mechanical overhaul, but I would be concerned at the quality of that looking at the underside of the car.

Having spoken to Howard Bowles he has admitted despite the documentation to the contrary he does not remember ever working on this car.
Even when i told him the original owners name it didn't ring any bells. However it is pretty clear that he probably did some engine work in the mid nineties but as for bodywork and paint definitely not.

If you base an assumption on a good Sprint being around £16k, regardless of the welding, it’s a cheap car in my opinion.
If you spent £5k on sorting the underneath and some body work your still only into £13.5k, which gives someone a great template to fettle with for years to come.
Try picking up a Mk2 Escort for £8.5k. You might get a shell and a V5 if your lucky !!

So It's ended up with me. Didn't expect my bid to win as there were 269 watchers and many bidders with the reserve not met. All went quiet and then the reserve was dropped. Long drive in a truck to fetch it from Bridgend to Nottingham. I challenged Car & Classics Auctions about the fact that it was listed as a private sale but it turned out to be a dealer. Amazingly no reply or acknowledgement so far. Yes it has had a paint job for sale but I had seen the photos of the underside and on first inspection whilst it wouldn't pass an MOT there are other issues to fix first. The worst was finger tight nuts on the steering arms. Soon remidied but thank God i chose to pick up and not drive back.
The footwell repair is sound but messy and seems to have been done a long time ago. First job is thhe electrics which we will be looking at next week starting with I suspect a poor engine earth connection. I am documenting all this on Facebook - Sprint Rolling Rsto. (accidental spelling mistake). All advice welcome. Thanks for letting me join.
