Sprint snapped wheel stud - changing halfshafts

Hello
I have just snapped a rear wheel stud on my 1978 Sprint. Although the car is a late model with the thicker studs on the front, the rear axle is much earlier (around 3000) and therefore has the thinner studs. I still have the original rear axle, which was swapped as it was very noisy and a bit rusty in the cups for the rear radius arms.
Due to the faff of getting the old studs out and having to press off the rear hub I was thinking of just swapping out the complete halfshaft assemblies. How easy is it to shim up this compared to the hassle of pressing off all the hubs and swapping them over on to the original halfshafts? Unfortunately I don't have a 20T press available nor a local friendly garage that I would trust with my car where I currently live!
Many thanks in advance.
