British Leyland & Union Jack Badge Positioning

#1 Post by David Embery »

Hi

I have a freshly painted May 1972 Dolomite 1850 and both a British Leyland and Union Jack badge (see photos) that need fixing to the rear bottom half of the Driver’s side wing.

Very keen to get these adhesive badges in the right place. Therefore, if anyone can give me the correct positioning and associated measurements, I would be extremely grateful.

Cheers

David

The union flag was never a standard fitment, so you can put it wherever you like.

I've seen the BL badges in various locations on seemingly unmodified cars. I can measure the location of the ones on Ted's car which hasn't been touched since it left the factory next visit to my lock up...

In my restoration thread, Carledo told me that:
"There is no RIGHT place for the wing badges, they were stuck on by the selling dealer wherever the mechanic doing the PDI thought best! Though your original position ones are one of the more bizarre choices i've seen! More normal is a couple of inches forward of there and an inch up. BL was a relatively new thing then, so the badges were an afterthought.

My own taste says de-clutter and leave them off, as so many did back in the day after accident or rust repairs. But if you MUST keep them, the position I like best is 2" below the UPPER swage and 2" forward of the door."
So use Aluns' measurements and feel confident that it's as correct as anything else :)
