Paint Colour Matching

Afternoon All

My sprint has non-standard cellulose paint on it and I am trying to find a colour match for some touch up paint.

A local automotive paint supplier has told me it is not possible to confirm the composition of cellulose paint using a Spectrophotometer and the only way to do it is via colour matching cards (similar to the dulux ones you get in B&Q)

After several attempts I haven't had any success is getting a good match, the match to the card is ok but when I get the paint mixed to the card specification the match isn't good enough.

Just wondered if anyone else has had any success in achieving a colour match with cellulose using a Spectrophotometer or any advice on how to get a good colour match... didn't really want to paint the whole car

Some places will manually match a colour. I know Autopaints Brighton do (they are renowned locally, or rather the chap who does it is)
Asking around may find a place local to you. They need a panel or chunk of panel to match.
I ahave used the service a few times over the years, and know others who have too. All very good.

Is this the ex Mad Mart trackday car in white and green?

If so, I know he painted it himself (or had it painted at his instructions) and may have a bit of colour left lying around for it. Worth giving him a shout in any case!

Hi Steve

It is Mart’s old car, I have spoken to him and unfortunately hasn’t got any left and not sure of the original colour :-(

I did take my boot lid to a local company who did a match from their colour cards but wasn't quite 100%

I have now found another company who I have sent a sample too, so hopefully they can get a bit closer..

Thank you for your advice :-)
