my mate used to have a black dolomite sprint.was originally russet brown but the previous owner had it painted.reg was summat with vs in it.got a pic somewhere.this car also had the door cappings and dash refaced in walnut.looked beautiful.he must have sold it on over ten years ago.
reckon this is the same car?

this car also had the door cappings and dash refaced in walnut.
But all Sprints wooden bits were/are Walnut!

Or did you mean they changed it to Burr Walnut like the Dolly SE, as opposed to the cheap stuff that's usually in a Sprint?

AFAIK Triumph didn't make any black sprints. It does look nice though. Any pictures?

The bungs in the boot may well be for a luggage rack?

are you sure its a sprint? the only black dolly mass produced as standard was the SE, it had silver stripes, square headlights, and was basically a dressed up basic 1500 with different wheels.

interestingly my 1st SE from 15 yrs or so ago had a very sexy boot rack with mounting brackets bolted through the bootlid. I wish I'd saved the rack actually, because I think it was meant to go on a spitfire and came from canley development through the 'back door' as the guy I bought the car from worked there...

some 20 years ago just before I bought my Vermillion one.
It was S reg and resprayed from Russet, being sold by none other that Tony Lyndsay Dean in Feltham...before I knew who he was.
Didnt buy it cos the timing chain or camshaft was noisy...

As the guys say...only factory ones were SE's...so it could be a conversion on an SE bodyshell, which would square with the burr cappings. Be interesting to see if it has the brake valve and the steady bar correctly done under the bonnet. And the fuel warnig light on the tank sender.

Does and SE have the full on boot liners that go all the way to the back of the boot or just the el cheapo 1300 square light half efforts?

My SE has a full boot liner.....the one with the kickup in it that covers the rear between the arches? Has the card bits that cover the inside of the boot too, at the sides (where the filler is).

If it's got no vinyl too, this would also suggest it was an SE :)

...the 'flat' spec dash with meagre offering of dials is also a give away.

all these things may have possibly been modified over the years of course...

i too owned a black sprint about 16 years ago , there was no sign it was any other colour .
it was lovely looking , had the rear part that is usually black in silver .
it was on a p plate thats all i can remember of the reg, traded it in for a mark 1 xr2 after the gear box lost 2+ 3rd and the subframe was coming away from the chassis.
remember it got real hot inside in the summer

edit. seem to remember talk on here of a black sprint on display at a main dealers show room :?:

thanks for the advice guys, ive arranged to have it delivered on saturday morning,so will be able to give more details about it then, vin number etc,the boot rack sounds like a good explanation about the rubber bungs, believe it or not its got the original 70s radio and speakers, also an 8 track thingy..lol,got it running with some petrol sprayed into the carbs, sounds sweet no rattles or knocks, also its got a map reading chrome light installed not sure if this is standard or not, needs outer sills and a small hole in the drivers footwell, apart from that the upper body is really good, cant wait to play with it,thanks jiffy

So was black in the special order list at extra cost for the Dolly then? You could have Princesses and Allegros in black if you wanted I think.
