...I managed this in situ many years ago. The clouds of time make me forget the awkward bits; anyone done it recently who can remind me where the ball ache is (apart from oil dripping in your eyes...I remember that bit!) either removing or reassembling...

Need to undo Nº2 big end to hoy the piston out to inspect the side skirts etc

Alun, done it a couple of times lately. You need a ¼" drive socket to undo the two bolts on the flywheel end, with an extension bar and knuckle joint. You'll have to remove the starter to get at the bolt that goes straight through the block casting. Once you've got the sump free you need to manoeuvre it so you can undo the two 7/16" bolts holding the oil pick-up & either remove the pick-up or let it drop in the sump. Twist sump 90 deg. & off it comes.

That's it, I remember the oil pick up being a pig to get back on, I kept dropping the second bolt into the sump!

I would....

Just bite the bullet and take the lot out m8....

You know it will make sense in the long run.

its okay getting the piston out but do you fancy putting it back in with the block on the slope like that?

No quick fixes....we know they only cause pain later.
