I have a pair of trims in my haul of spares as fitted on the Sprint just below the doors. Anyone know which model years had these ?

1977 build IRRC but some 1978 Registered cars built in 1977 will have had them.

Excellent. So they won't look out of place on a Nov '77 Sprint. Good News

I thought the trims below the doors were on the earlier Sprints? My '74 track Sprint has them & so does KDF ('75). :?

Some mid term cars had both cill and door trims, later ones just the doors, early ones just the cills. This change seems to span the various 'mark' alterations and is fairly arbitrary.

Set off black cills nicely, make the cars look lower.

The only problem with them is the fact that rust frequently starts where the fixings are fitted. I have taken them off on one of my cars to overcome the problem.

I always remove them as they are rust traps, and the lower ones on the doors too.

thet the wide chrome cill trims were deleted in 79 with the change in VIN numbers.

I only have a small sample ( 3 of early series 4's and 2 later ones that I know to be original in this area) ) but early "series 4" cars in my posession have them and the later ones don't..

Difficult to be authoritative as so many cars have been repaired in this are.

I'm with the rust trap view and havent refitted the cill ones when Ive had them done. Doors....do provide some parking protetction so I keep them.

Both my Sprint (1980 V) and 1500 (1980 W) have got the wide sill trims. Like kick plates, both cars have VIN type comission numbers too though the Sprint doesn't have it in the boot lid area, never checked the 1500.

Once again I'm proved wrong by the evidence...

Like I say...you never stop learning with dolomites.

Love 'em...

Point taken on the corrosion aspect, and if I were using it as a daily driver, I'd probably not bother with them either.

I'm still going to fit them. Why?

My Dolly's never going to be a daily driver (I wish), I have a horrible modern eurobox for that, and as Dolly will have to reside in a garage (I've nowhere else to put it) it's unlikely to suffer from serious corrosion due to exposure to wet weather, acid rain (well occasionally maybe) de-icing salts etc as it will be protected from the elements.

I personaly don't like the chrome strips on the dollys. I think the shape doesn't need all the extra 'tat' stuck on, nor does it need the black sills

My dolly has had cills at some point in its life so the bottom trims have gone and being an early 1850 originally the door ones were never fitted.

Its the chrome trims, black sills and stripes that made the Sprint stand out from the standard Dolomite. I think they look better with them as without them the car looks like its unfinished, been painted and the owner couldn't be arsed to fit them back on. Point taken about corrosion though but you can get round that.
