A major Restoration Show with many demonstrations of restoration and maintenance techniques, together with a huge Autojumble, 50+ club stands and trade displays.

They've just started advertising this on the local telly this week (well, first time I've seen it).

Anyone going, I might pop down to see if it's something the TDC could do next year.

We were invited to put on a display at this event and I passed on the details to our Events Officer to sort out. However, with the Rimmers Dolly Day, National Restoration Show and NEC Classic Car show all taking place in the same four weeks, it probably would have been too much to take on another event. That said, how we left it was that we would apply for a stand anyway, then appeal for volunteers to run it. I suspect the application wasn't actually made or the organisers didn't get back to us. I'll have to check with our Events Officer...

As Andy said, with the Restoration show, and the trip up to Rimmer Bros just before and with the NEC the week after, we would have ended up with a rubbish stand, (probably me polishing an alloy) which would have been no good at all.

When I rang up about the event, it turned out that our invitation was actually meant for the "other" club. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to understand what was going on, and I think I actually asked for an application pack, but nothing came, and given the opportunity for confusion (no doubt we would have ended up on the same stand) I didn't push it any further.

If we are willing to do it next year it will involve some careful marshalling of resources as October/November is beginning to turn into a pretty busy time car show wise.

Well I might pop down anyway. It would make a change to go to a show that was a lot closer to me. Maybe Dave & I (and anyone else) could get together & arrange something next year.

With Ceri's show biz know how and my amazing mechanical ability we will have THE BEST stand at this show next year!

You do realise that means you will have to arrive on the friday night and not leave till the sunday? no turning up at midday either.

Just got back from the show. What another gorgeous day, had a great trip down & went via Cheddar on the way back (roof down all the way ).

The show was split over 2 halls, the Showering Pavillion & the Mendip Hall. Quite a good few autojumble stalls and of course the cars. Not too much going on in the way of "restoration", there were 3 or 4 cars actually having something done to them but the majority were either complete cars that had already been restored or "projects" in the middle of restoration but just sat sitting there on show. I haven't been to a restoration show before but was expecting to see a lot more activity with people taking out engines, rubbing down panels etc. etc. more like what the TDC do at Stoneleigh.

I had a long chat with a chap who does resprays in Plymouth. He had a collection of cars on his stand including an MGB Roadster, a Triumph TR4 and a newly resprayed rolling shell of an MGC GT. All very nicely done.

I bought some more windscreen finishing strip & a tool to put it in with from Phoenix Supplies, a rubber backing pad for my 4" grinder & some sanding pads and two tubes of Autosol (2 for a fiver). We only spent a couple of hours there but it was most enjoyable, especially as I got to spend some money.

So we can look forward to some spectacular lighting effects then Ceri?
