Northern Dolly Day 17th August Yorkshire Dales

#1 Post by aureol40012 »

The title of this thread may be a bit premature but if any of the area groups are thinking of organising a run in the Dales next summer then you might want to consider the following......

My Dad owns a campsite in the heart of Swaledale near a place called Keld. Its is in a beautiful location right next to the River Swale and 3 miles from Tan Hill Inn (the highest altitude pub in England). He's also a Triumph man having owned a couple of 2500s, a TR6, and his new toy, a 1976 1850HL (he's also got a 1949 Ferguson TVO tractor!). So, if you wanted take a break on a day run through the dales, park the cars in the field, and take afternoon tea then he'd be happy to try and fit you in. Equally, if there was a weekend event then you could camp at the site or, if you were on the ball, book B&B at the converted barn that is on the site too:

http://www.yorkshirenet.co.uk/stayat/parkhousecottage/

This isn't an attempt to generate business (the campsite has been around 37 years and runs on word of mouth!), just an offer from 2 club members (father and son).

Equally, if anyone fancies a weekend away with the family then drop him a line.

Hi, sounds like a great idea, I'm a new member and would like to get out and about in 08. I live in Durham and Tan Hill seems like a nice day out, I've even got some camping gear. Keep me posted. :D

This sounds like an ideal venue for Northern Dolly Day. Getting a bit fed up of the charges Harewood make to show your own car to the paying public. How about a get together in the village or even on the camp site one Sunday in July? It could be billed as both NDD and a club picnic outing.

Yep, sounds brilliant. I'm sure I can get the brother with Albert to come and I'm sure the old man would like to come along. (So that's 6 people - 2 dolomites)

Can you cope with a noisy drunken lot? :D

I'll wear my TDC hat at NDD and the Sprint will be the car of choice. I like the idea of having it at this campsite. Me and Anita enjoy camping trips.

Well, again, me and the bruv are well up for it. Aureol40012, any news?

I'm fed up with the expense of Harewood, we need a change!

How does Sunday August 17th sound? If members wish to camp o/nite please contact the site in Keld directly. Just an informal gathering on the Sunday, don't see the need for formal concours contests, let's just have a nice day up in the glorious Yorkshire dales. Have asked for site location details.

Sounds good to me Steve. Me and the bruv should be there if we can sort out the camping.

Hi,

Sorry all, been rather busy with other things so have stepped back from this one. As far as I am aware my Dad has it in the diary and is in contact with Steve?

I'll be coming up from leicester in my TR6 or the Dolly depending on the weather! My friend from Manchester will probably come up in his TVR too.

If you want any general information about the area or the campsite then I'll try and answer anything posted on here!

I went up to the campsite yesterday and I met Jake's dad and we showed each other our Dollies. I passed the place last year on another run. Also it is abouy 7 miles from Hawes where the Wensleydale cheese factory is. If anyone needs directions ask me or SW.

Dave has kindly let me have the post code for the venue. It is DL11 6DZ. So if you check on MultiMap UK you will get precice location data. It is just past the village of Keld.
There are some good B&Bs around, as well as the B&B at the venue for those who want to stay overnight on the Saturday. Usew your Google search to find them.
