What is the deal here?
Is there a place to read up on these events or do the guys that take part in them make there own arrangements to be at a certain track at a certain time?
It's something I'd like to look into in the future.

Colin, some of the events are organised by other car clubs who invite other car clubs. Others, like the "Action Days" at Castle Combe, you just order your track sessions & turn up at the circuit. We also go to the "Motorsport Events" track days which are mainly on MOD airfields, but they are based in the West Country.

If you have never done a track day.
Castle Combe Action days are hectic and some drivers are dangerous (however I love em cos they are target rich and I love a burn up).
Invites from MG club for an instance are well behaved with good track manners.
Motorsport events would be my advice for a first track day as plenty of run off (if you get it wrong) very good track manners as most drivers are driving more expensive cars than ours.
Come on in the waters lovely

Yes, as Jon says, the CC Action Days do attract some w****ers who think they can drive, & disregard everything they're told in the briefing (don't think they can hold the info. very long).
Motorsport Event TDs are very well organised & they offer tuition by ex-motorsport drivers. These are usually on airfields with the circuit being marked with cones. Loads of grip & plenty of run off (no tyre walls to hit). These TDs are open to anyone/anything.
The club run events I like the best. The ones we've participated in recently have been run by MGs on Track. Again, very well organised & everyone behaves. (except for the odd green Spitfire, TR or MGF that won't let you past).
The CC days work out quite expensive but are very popular. The other two events are well worth the money as you get loads of track time.

I remember when I first drove at GoodWood, I had to disregard some of what the instructor said to round the track, I was driving a lowered but standard engined Sprint and the standard brakes and are crap on a good day.
I slung the car into the corners and applied the throttle, the instructor said I was steering the car with the back wheels, but hell it was bloody good fun and saved cooking the brakes totally.

Well, I even got the OK from the Mrs. on this one.
With her offering to pay for the first one
Hope to talk nearer the time, to meet up at a track near the home counties possibly?

For a first track day I would recomend bedford autodrome. Its a propper track rather than an airfield but one which built for this sort of thing so there is nothing to hit. I have been there twice with easytrack and they seemed to do an ok job, much better to get a open pitlane day rather than sessioned as you will get more track time. The only issue with bedford is noise but I dont expect you will have an issue with that.
