I have bought a 1500 Dolomite engine to put in a spitfire 1500. I think this because the engine number starts with letters DM and the spitfire engines atarted with FH I believe.
Firstly am I right ?
Next - I have fitted the engine and the starter doesn't engage the engine. Is this because I need to replace the spitfire starter with a starter for a dolomite 1500? and is that a straight replacement ?
or am I doomed to have to remove the engine and replace the flywheel? cheers

1500 dolomite should be YC!
DM refers to 1500 toledo according to my book?

Phew that's a relief it has the suffix so it's a reconditioned engine.
but my problem still exists re the starter not engaging.

well i was close.
try the starter out of the car direct to the battery to check if teh bendix throws out and check the teeth are not worn. does the engine turn if you put it in gear and rock the car back and forth?
