Overhauling my dizzy today & noticed one of the advance / retard weight springs appeared stretched & loose. So I raided a spare dizzy & that was the same. It made me wonder if it was meant to have odd springs?

This would be a 45D4 dizzy Roy? I've seen exactly the same thing in every single one I've ever had, so I guess its either a very common fault or they're supposed to be like that. I put two of the smaller, unstretched springs into a dizzy once and it seemed to work very well.

iirc the springs are different. But it's been many years and the resultant loss of grey matter has made its mark

The springs are supposed to be like that to achieve the correct timing curve.
